Josephine Dodge Daskam Bacon papers [manuscript], 1900-1915.

The collection contains the first page of a manuscript titled "The distinction of our poetry." In a letter, 1900 November 30, to Carolyn Halsted, Bacon tells about her early work beginning with "Smith College Stories." She mentions other short stories and verse and the magazines in which they were published including "Sister's vocation and other girls' stories," "Her fiancâe," "The imp and the angel," "The madness of Philip," and "The essential distinction of American poetry," In letters, 1915 June 22 and August 21, to a Miss Underhill, Bacon hesitates over and then regrets a speaking invitation in the Catskills.
